Design and Distill Your Perfect Gin
At our Gin School, gin lovers spend an enjoyable evening choosing botanicals, creating a recipe and distilling their own spirit, before heading home with their very own bottle of gin.
What happens at Gin School?
Students are greeted on arrival at Gin School with a gin and tonic. Our distillers give an introduction to gin and its ingredients, its history and folklore.
The students explore a wide range of classic and unusual gin botanicals, then create their own personal gin recipe, with expert guidance from the distillers.
Weights and Measures
Next it’s time for the budding gin makers to weigh the botanicals and load them into their individual copper alembic stills. We serve a second gin-based beverage and some food (see below).
Heads or Tails
Distillers guide guests through the skilled process of separating the “heads”, “hearts” and “tails” of their gin. Watching the distillate slowly drip into the bottle provides the opportunity to enjoy a third gin and tonic or martini.
TASTE AND BOTTLE
When distillation is finished, the gin teachers assist in measuring and diluting the distillate to proper strength. After everyone has had a taste of the finished product, it is bottled and decorated with attractive customisable labels.
Happy guests leave us after three hours, full of gin and newfound knowledge, and with a 500ml bottle of their own unique gin. We keep the record on file so it can be reproduced to order.
Tickets are £150 for a couple or £125 for a single person. This price includes use of a still, access to botanicals, one 500ml bottle of your handcrafted gin to take home, three gin & tonics or martinis each over the course of the session and a selection of nibbles.
More substantial food can be ordered during the evening from our friends at JJAM, opposite the distillery.
Prices for private group events (Gin School is popular with Stag and Hen party) can be quoted on request.
How to Book
Due to the uncertainty of COVID 19 and lockdown, we do not currently have an online booking diary system for Gin Schools. Instead we arrange our frequent Gin School sessions by request, allowing us to manage numbers more effectively. If you are interested in booking a session in January 2022 or beyond, please contact us via the booking request form to express your preferred dates. We will then get back to you to make arrangements.
Giving the Gift of Gin
We offer the option to buy a gift voucher which is redeemable against any Gin School session from January 2021 onwards (we’ll release a full calendar of events closer to that time). Vouchers are valid for a year and can be bought in store or ordered from our online shop.
Food from JJAM
During Gin School Experiences, our friends at JJAM, the restaurant across the yard from the distillery, are happy to take orders from our gin school customers and deliver food straight to the gin classroom. This can be paid for on the night.
